This e-library is part of the project “Electronic Human Rights Education for Lawyers” implemented by the Human Rights House Network and its partner organizations in different countries.

History (2006-2009)

Electronic data on human rights education for lawyers and human rights defenders has been collected during the project “Bring International Standards Home” for Belarusian participants (more than 12 seminars and visits to international organizations, including the CoE and the HRHF Geneva offices).

The collection of education material has been further developed into an electronic library and is now used for two projects of the Human Rights House Network, “Electronic Human Rights Education for Lawyers” and “Bring International Standards Home”.

Purpose/Aim

The primary purpose of the e-library is to facilitate training activities on international human rights and constitutional instruments for legal protection in the CIS countries, for both projects under the program ‘International Law in Advocacy’, namely “Bring International Standards Home” and “Electronic Human Rights Education for Lawyers”.

The library will also facilitate the professional activities of project participants and lawyers and human rights defenders outside the project framework by giving them an opportunity to easily access international and domestic human rights instruments and other relevant materials in one place.

Content

The data includes international documents, lectures of national and international experts, articles, audio and video material etc.

The library seeks to provide links to other online resources for human rights defenders, lawyers and students of international law to ensure the broadest collection and expertise.

Language

The website exists in two language versions, namely English and Russian, that provide information about the library, its history, structure, purpose and offer links to related resources.

The library collection is offered in either Russian, or English or local languages (those of participating countries) in accordance with the following approach: international instruments will be available in English and Russian (if available), while documents pertaining to domestic legislation will be presented in the local languages and English/Russian (if available). Articles written by national and international experts will be presented in the original language and translation into Russian (as the main project language) whenever possible.

Ownership
As part of the HRHN project, the e-library belongs to the Human Rights House Network represented by the Human Rights House Foundation.
